Esta vez hablamos con BILLY O'NEIL, que nos cuenta acerca de su recuperacion despues de su accidente en Europa y nos habla de su proyecto nuevo de frames: CREATE ORIGINALS.

1. RICHIE: Ok Billy, 1st off thanks for taking time off to do this interview for us. Lets
begin. When I interviewed Murda, I mentioned to him that I still have the Daily
Bread with the article on NYC, that featured interviews for lots of up and comers
like yourself, Murda, Franco, etc...
A few years later you landed yourself a job in one of the badest crew ever: Shane
Coburn's MINDGAME team. Can you tell us a little bit about that experience with
Mindgame?

BILLY:Skating for Mindgame is one of my more proud moments in my skating "career". Shane

first noticed my skating after he watched a Nature Skate Video film called

"Maintain". He asked me if i wanted to skate on the AM team for Mindgame. I

respectfully declined, because i was already a pro on salary at Eulogy. A short

while after the Razor video "Ego" came out, he contacted me again and asked if i

wanted to skate for Mindgame pro, which i accepted. It was cool to be a part of that

legacy, even though i was at the end of it. Mindgame represented our culture in a

very elite way...all in all, it was a great honor for me to be a part of creating

something that set a standard in our community... R.I.P.Mindgame

2. RICHIE: NYC has been known for producing some of the hardest most dedicated skaters of
all time. The Riggler, Rawlinson, Dedentro, the Dislas, Ray Mendez,Ortega; Big names
in the 90's. What is it about NYC skaters that makes them so unique?

BILLY: NYC has always been real. Real people that tell you what they feel. Nothings sugar-

coated, its not hollywood. Its a city with millions of people and different cultures

that interact with each other on a daily basis. This intense living envirnment

breeds real people, personalities and skaters. Thats the thing about New

York...skating has always been strong here and its only getting stronger.

3. RICHIE: Ok, lets talk about your skating. Who are you skating for and how much are they
paying you? Hahahaha! No but seriously, who are you riding for these days?

BILLY:Hahahaha skaters get paid??...haha ummm, right now I'm skating for USD, JUG and

street artist wheels....I am also co-owner and riding for Create Originals with

frames...As far as clothing goes, I have no sponsor, but I rep INRI and B Unique..

4. RICHIE: Last year there was that accident in Spain where you got hit by a car. Is that
the worst injury or misfortune you've ever had skating, or do you remember a worse
one? If so, what happened?

BILLY:Mannnnnn that was BY FAR the worst thing that happened to me on skates. That keep me

off skates for 11 months and then another 4-5 months on skates before i could

actually skate good. That accident sucked.

5. RICHIE: So we've seen some new stuff now. Gradually, you've been reapearing in many
forums and magazine ads. Perhaps the most anticipated comeback for this year was
yours. The 1st pics released were of you rocking some frames no one outside of the
North East had seen. There was also one of you pulling a HUGE 180 over some stairs.

Does this mean you're completely recovered or do you still have more recovering
coming?

BILLY:Well, in the period of time when those pics were coming out, yes i was still

recovering. Since then i have come along way in terms of what im capable of doing

and comfortability on my skates. So i would say right now, im about 95% recovered,

which is good. Ankles take forever to heal. Regardless, Im extremely happy to be

back on skates.

6. RICHIE:And based on that, we know Brotherly Love is filming for the Truth 2. I heard
Murda, and Jon Jon are getting full profile sections on it. a.) Are you going to
have one as well? b.) What can we expect from you in this video?

BILLY: a...The plan is for me to have one. I already started filming for it earlier on in

the the beginning of the summer. As long as these guys make time to film me then

yes, I will have a section.

b...You can expect my best skating to date.

7. RICHIE: Threw the internet the industry has found out that the recession has also hit
rollerblading hard. We've recently lost 2 great companies like Deshi and Franco
Shade. Deshi however, seems to have merged with USD, your main sponsor. It seems the
boys in Europe have taken the Carbon Boot concept and are now branding it USD. What
are your thoughts on the new skate technology USD will be bringing to the table in
2010?
And is there a new USD Billy Oneil skate in the works? If so, will you be switching
to a Carbon Boot pro model, the good old Evo Throne or will we see something new?

BILLY: Well for me, I have always been a fan of the UFS Throne, so thats what my pro skate

is going to be. My new skate is a white UFS Throne fully stocked with Create

Original frames, Street Artist wheelsand JUG liners (doesnt get much better than

that). I've heard alot of good things about the Carbons, but I have yet to try

them...but the Kelso's say that theyre the best skates they've rode in a long time.

8. RICHIE: Ok, so now we move on to something I am very interested in knowing more about, as
do many of our readers around the globe. Lets talk about CREATE ORIGINALS.
Where does the idea initially come from?

BILLY:We wanted to create a company that gave skaters the oppurtunity to have a quality

product AND personalize their own skates by putting their art and their ideas onto

the frame canvas. Skateboarders have an assortment of skateboard decks with designs

on the bottom that get scratched off in time....now we have a product that allows

the skater to CREATE their own ORIGINAL design, which makes the possibilities

endless...truly a quality idea and product made by guys who been skating their whole

lives. CO is the ttruth ;)

9. RICHIE: Besides the graphic inserts, there is also a concept designed to make the frame a
more versatile frame. Create Originals has a new idea on how to turn your Anti/Flat
Rocker setup into a Freestyle one. Can you tell us a little about that?

BILLY: Yes, you can skate anti, flat or freestyle on Create Original frames. We provide

grindblocks that come with every pair of frames sold, so the choice is yours.

10. RICHIE: Next, can you tell us who will be riding for Create Originals?

BILLY: As of now the Create Originals team is this : PRO : sean kelso, colin kelso, jon jon

bolino, billy oneill AM : franco cammayo, austin paz, mark wodja ..... but we got a

few surprises for the future.

11. RICHIE: The concept of the C.O.frame in my opinion is absolutely perfect. Adding
graphics to frames as if it were a skateboard deck has been attepmted by Senate,
Kizer, Able, just to name a few, which in my opinion failed miserably. I say this
because the design would fade after one or two sessions on a ledge. You guys seem to
have not only solved the problem, but also brought something new to the table no one
else ever imagined: Allowing the skaters who purchase your frame to add any design
they please. THAT, Billy is the coolest shit EVER.

So now that you and the team have been testing the frames out for the last few
months, what are your thoughts on the frame itself, for skating? Is it light, slick
and everything a good frame should be?

BILLY: After months and month of rigorous testing, we are more than happy with the final

product. The H-block has a 4 finger groove (even for flat), they slide amazingly

fast and after riding my frames for months (of doing big gaps and hammers, etc) my

frames are still holding up strong. We are proud to say we have a really good

product thats going to be around for years to come.

12. RICHIE: Last but not least, when will the 1st line of Create Originals frames and
clothing be released? And what will the set of frames retail for approximately?

BILLY: The clothing is already available at certain shops. The frames will be available at

the end of September and they are retailing at $69.95 a pair. We

appreciate everyone who has supported us up until this point, this is the future of

1.RICHIE: Billy, primero que nada, gracias por tomarte un momento para darnos una
entrevista. Empezemos. Cuando hable con Murda, le mencione que aun conservo una
Daily Bread con profiles de todos ustedes hace años. Unos años despues te lograstes
conectar con una legendaria compañia con uno de los crews mas increibles que ha
exsistido: El equipo MINDGAME de Shane Coburn. Cuentanos un poco de tu experiencia
en Mindgame.

-BILLY:Patinar para Mindgame fue uno de los momentos de mi "carrera" de los que

estoy mas orgulloso. Shane me noto en un video de Nature Skate Video que se llama

Maintain, y me pidio que si queria estar en el equipo de amateurs de Mindgame. Con

mucho respeto, le dije que no gracias, porque ya estaba como profesional en el

equipo de Eulogy. Justo despues que salio Ego, el video de Razors se volvio a

comunicar conmigo para ver si yo queria estar en el equipo Pro de Mindgame, y

acepte. Fue increible ser parte de ese legado, aunque fue justo al final. Mindgame

representaba a nuestra cultura en una manera especial y pues fue un verdadero honor

ser parte de algo que impuso el estandard de nuestra industria...Q.D.E.P.

2. RICHIE: La ciudad de Nueva York se le conoce por haber porducido algunos de los
rollers mas dedicados y duros de todos los tiempos. Figuras como The Riggler(Ryan
Jackolone), Rawlinson, Dedentro, los Dislas, Ray Mendez, Dave Ortega; grandes
figuras del rollerblading en los 90. Que es lo que hace a un roller de NY tan unico?

-BILLY: NY siempre ha sido un lugar real. Gente real que te dicen lo que sienten.

Nada se suaviza, no es Hollywood. Es una gran ciudad con millones de personas y

diferentes culturas que interactuan uno con el otro en base diaria. Este entorno se

vuelve intenso, y crea gente de verdad, personalidades y rollers fuertes. Eso es la

cosa con Nueva York, el rolling siempre ha sido fuerte...y se sigue poniendo mas

fuerte.

3. RICHIE: Ok, hablemos de ti y tu carrera. Para quien estas patinando y cuanto te
pagan? Jajajajaja! No, pero en serio, quienes son tus patrocinadores en estos dias?

-Billy: A uno le pagan por patinar?? Jajajaja!...puesss, ahorita estoy montando para

USD, Jugs, y Street Artists Wheels...tambien soy socio/propietario y patino para Create

Originals....y de ropa, pues no tengo patrocinador, pero represento INRI, y B

Unique.

4. RICHIE: El año pasado ocurrio el famoso incidente en España en el que te
atropello un auto. Es esa la peor cosa que te ha pasado en patines hasta el dia de
hoy?

-Billy: Hombreeeeee eso es POR MUCHO lo peor que me ha pasado en patines. Eso me

mantuvo fuera de mis patines por 11 meses y luego unos 4-5 meses en patines antes de

poder patinar bien de nuevo. Ese accidente fue un desastre.

5. RICHIE: Hemos visto algunas cosas nuevas por ahi. Gradualmente estas
reapareciendo en foros de internet y en revistas. Puede que el regreso mas
anticipado del año sea el tuyo. Las primeras fotos que salieron de ti mostraban unos
frames que nadie afuera de la costa noreste de la USA habia visto. Tambien habia una
de ti haciendo un 180 enorme en unas gradas. Crees que ya estas recuperado
completamente, o te falta mas trabajo?

-BILLY: Pues, cuando salieron las fotos, si, aun me estaba recuperando. Desde

entonces, eh progresado mucho en lo que puedo hacer sobre ruedas, y pues

acomodandome mucho mas. Diria que hoy me encuentro un 95% recuperado, lo cual es muy

bueno. Los tobillos duran mucho tiempo en sanar. Pero, aun asi, sigo muy contento de

estar de regreso en mis patines. (*Nota: en el accidente, Billy sufrio lesiones en

ambos tobillos, relacionados con sus ligamentos. El tobillo izquiero permanecio

enyesado por casi 4 meses!)

6.: RICHIE: En base a eso, sabemos que Brotherly Love esta produciendo el video
Truth 2. Se sabe que Murda y Jon Jon tendran su full profile. A.) Tendras una
seccion entera? b.) Que podemos esperar de ti en este video?

-BILLY: a...el plan es que tenga una seccion entera. Ya empeze a filmar para esa

seccion al principio del verano. Pero mientras los Kelso tengan suficiente tiempo

para filmarme, pues tendre mi seccion.

b....pueden esperar mi mejor skating hasta la fecha.

7. RICHIE: Por medio del internet, la industria se da cuenta que la resecion tambien
nos ha afectado este año. Recientemente perdimos dos grandes empresas como lo son
Deshi y Franco Shade. Deshi, por otra parte parece que se convirtio en parte de USD,
tu patrocinador. Parece que los de Europa(Conference) han tomado el concepto de la
bota de fibra de carbono, y la estan lanzando bajo el nombre USD. Que opinas de la
tecnologia que estara trayendo USD en el 2010?
Y hay un nuevo plan para otro patin pro para ti? Y si si, cambiaras al modelo de
Fibra de Carbono, o te quedaras con el Throne, o veremos algo nuevo?

-BILLY: Bueno, yo siempre eh sido fan de los UFS Throne, asi que ese sera mi proximo

patin profesional. Mi nuevo patin sera un Throne Blanco, con frames de Create

Originals, ruedas Street Artist, y Jug Liners(no se puede poner mejor que eso!)
De los Carbons, pues eh escuchado muchas buenas cosas pero no los eh probado

aun...pero los Kelsos dicen que son los mejores patines que han montado en mucho

tiempo.

8. RICHIE: Ok, hablemos de algo de que me intersa conocer mucho, igual que a muchos de
nuestros lectores por todo el mundo. Hablemos de CREATE ORIGINALS. De donde viene el
concepto?

-BILLY: Pues queriamos crear una compañia que le brindaba la oportunidad al roller

de comprar algo de buena calidad que a la vez pudiera ser personalizado por los

rollers dandoles un canvas en los frames. Los patinetos tienen miles de diseños en

sus tablas pero con el tiempo de les desvanecen. ..ahora tenemos un producto que le

da la oportunidad al roller de CREAR, tu diseño ORIGINAL, lo cual da posibilidades

infinitas...una idea de alta calidad producida por tipos que que han estado

patinando toda su vida. Create Originals es la verdad!! ;)

9. RICHIE: Ademas de los graficos que se pueden añadir, hay un concepto de diseño que lo
hace mas versatil. Create Originals tiene una idea de como convertir tu frame de
antirocker/flat rocker a Freestyle. Hablanos de esa idea.

-Billy: Si, puedes patinar antirocker, o Freestyle con Create Originals. Cada par

viene con unos bloques que se le insertan para convertir tu frame en freestyle, si

asi lo deseas. La opcion es tuya!

10. RICHIE: Quien estara en el equipo de Create Originals?

-Billy: Hasta Ahorita, el equipo es: PRO: Sean y Colin Kelso, Jon Jon Bolino, Billy

Oneil.
Amateur: Franco Camayo, Austin Paz, Mark Wodja...y unas sorpresas mas.

11. RICHIE: ME parece que el concepto de Create Originals es PERFECTO. El agregar
graficos al frame como si fuesen patinetas se ha intentado por Senate, Kizer, ABle,
y todos han fracasado porque despues de una patinada en un muro, se desvanecen los
diseños. No solo solucionaron el problema de graficas que no se desvanecen, sino que
hicieron algo que nadie se imagino: El poder agregar cualquier cosa que el roller
desee...ESO, Billy es lo maximo!

Asi que, ya que el equipo los ha estado probando por varios meses, cual es tu
opinion de los frames? Livianos, lizos, y todo lo que un buen par de frames debe
ser?

-BILLY: Despues de varios meses de pruebas estamos mas que contentos con el producto

final. El HBLOCK, o bloque central tiene un espacio de 4 dedos aun en flat rocker.

Deslizan incrible y despues de patinar los mios por meses despues de vuelos, grandes

y pequeños aun se mantienen en excelente condicion. Estamos orgullosos de producir

un accesorio que estara en el mercado por muchos años mas!

12. RICHIE: Y por ultimo, cuando saldra a la venta la primera linea de ropa y frames
de Create Originals y cual sera el precio de los frames?

-BILLY: Pues la ropa ya esta a la venta en tiendas selectas. Los frames saldran a la

venta a finales de Septiembre y tendran un costo de $69.95 US. Quiero darle las

gracias a todos los que nos apoyan hasta hoy. Este es el futuro del rollerblading!!
